Our Sewing Classes are designed to guide and educate individuals from the very beginning of machine operation to the most advanced sewing techniques. Class are open to all, and Sips N Sews Members are given priority reservation and discounts on class and supply fees.

Introduction Classes

 

Intro to Sewing: Boot-camp:intro to sewing

Every Thursday evening from 6:00pm to 9:30pm

Do you want to learn to sew? Intro to Sewing: Boot-camp will take you through all the basics from the Anatomy of a Sewing Machine to Stitch Selections, Basic Measurements, Notions, and hands on practice sheets to teach seam allowance, straight stitch, zigzag, curves, and corners.

Class is limited to 8 people, please reserve your space now.

Introduction to Quilting:

Tuesdays from 5:30pm to 9:30pm

Introduction to Quilting will concentrate on guiding the student from the very beginning of piecing techniques and why they are important to follow and ending with basic block building. Basic sewing machine techniques are required as using a sewing machine is part of the curriculum.

Bring to class: rotary cutter with blade and 3 pieces of coordinating fabrics – 1/4 yrd each.

This class offers fully access to the Talented Beth Galvin

Bring in any “Un Finished Object” in and have Beth guide you through whatever obstacle is facing the project.
Clean out that box or closet of any type of project (garment, home decor, etc.) and get the help you need to complete it. Perhaps you are stalled with a tricky bit of sewing, cant decipher the pattern instructions, or having issues with fabric. Need help understanding those tricky pattern instruction?, bring the entire project in. Need help with fittings, zippers, hems, collars?, Beth can help.

Skills to be taught: Anything your projects need to be completed.

Summer Shift Dress Workshop:

Spend the day with Beth Galvin, as she takes you on the amazing journey of creating a Summer Shift Dress from scratch in this all day Sunday workshop. You will start with taking measurements and understanding how to use them, continue through all the stages of creating, design, sewing, and complete the class with finishing the dress with zippers or other options. Learn to make a simple shift dress with a flattering fit and nicely finished on the inside and out.

Lunch is not provided, to save time please bring a bag lunch.

Skills to be taught in this class: Pattern fitting, laying out, cutting, marking, creating and applying facings, garment interiors, zippers, hemming, & neckline variations.

A wonderful project class taught by Dayo Mitchell. A Beena Shoulder Bag is stylish and trendy. Customize the fabrics to your personal taste and wardrobe. This class will take you through all the basics for design, preparation and creation.

Skills to be taught: Measuring, pattern making, cutting, pinning, interfacing, darts, closures, bagging a lining, and topstitching

Home Decor Pillows & Covers:pillow stuff

This class offers an in depth education on Home Decor Pillows and Covers. Learn every detail about making high end Home Decorative pillows. Such as; What pillow size will work for your concept,How to create a well fitting pillow cover, How to create that perfect plump pillow shape, How to make and apply piping, How to create an envelope style pillow cover, What closure works best for your home decor, How to avoid the “pointy ears” on a pillow and more.

Skills to be taught: Measuring, pattern making, cutting, pinning, sewing corners, installing zippers, velcro, or buttons, make and apply piping.

Monthly Classes

Machine Embroidery 101:
This class will address the basics of machine embroidery, including monograms and other basic embroidery designs. Emphasis on interfacing choice, thread choice and design placement. Class size is limited, advanced sign up is required. Call the front desk to claim a spot.

Sewist in Training Project Classes:
This class is offering projects that will cater toward children from ages 8 to 15. Each project will be designed for a specific age group. The class will be advertised as a project for the specific age group, such as using a sewing machine to make a throw blanket for ages 8 to 10; or creating backpacks for ages 10 to 13. These are just a few of the projects that will be taught. The project lists also include pot holders, pillowcases, jewelry bags, book covers, scarves, hats, vests, tote bags, and quillows.

 

 

Other Themed Classes:

Gift giving – Sewing Style: This project class can include quillows, naptime totes, baby blankets, bibs, aprons, hats, scarves, include throw pillows, curtains, dish towels, throws, appliance covers, table runners, and placemats with napkins. This class will not be limited to this list, students or members are welcome to request specific projects. Holidays will also influence the projects taught.

Father N Kid for Mom’s Day: This project class will provide an easy put together item that Fathers can work with children to create a custom gift for Mother’s Day.

Fan Gear: This class creates custom MLB such as, scarves, hats, purses, bags, backpacks, blankets, ponchos, shirts, pants and seat cushions. This is specifically generated for the City’s sports teams San Francisco Giants, Golden State Warriors and San Francisco 49’ers. * Fabric is not included, you must bring your franchise approved logo fabric to class *

Valentine’s Day: These project class will guide members to completion of items that are associated with Valentine’s Day such as Heart shaped pillows, boxers, robes, wraps, scarves, hats, bags.

Halloween: This project class will be directed toward decorations such as wall hangs, trick or treat bags, flags, table linens, bathroom decorations.

Thanksgiving: This project class will concentrate on table decorations.

Christmas Holiday: These project classes will guide member through completion of custom table linens, ornaments, gifts, tree skirts, wine bottle bags and other Christmas items.
